Description

This Inro case is made of iron and consists of three separate layers. The design on the surface features a family crest called the “Hidari Mitsu Tomoe (左三つ巴)”, which shows three comma-shaped figures swirling to the left in a circular pattern. This traditional Japanese motif is known for its dynamic shape. One well-known samurai who used this crest was Hijikata Toshizō (土方歳三), the vice-commander of the Shinsen-gumi (新選組).

The Netsuke is made from a stone with a vivid reddish-brown color, which is believed to be tortoiseshell (べっ甲).  A small, rounded metal bead is used as the ojime to keep the cord tight. It is practical and designed not to slip easily. Overall, this Inro case combines a calm, refined look with a touch of elegance, representing the mature craftsmanship of the late Edo period.

We hope you enjoyed this description and wish this Inro would speak to you.
