Description
This wooden sword stand is suitable for exhibiting a Katana sword. As seen in the example pictures, you could also display a Daisho (Katana & Wakizashi) set. This sword stand has a refined look. This sword stand is entirely painted with lacquer, and each motif is elegantly expressed with a traditional Japanese craft method, Makie (蒔絵) technique. The Makie is a typical Japanese lacquer art technique developed uniquely in Japan for about 1,200 years. Firstly, it needs to draw a picture with lacquer on the surface with a thin brush. Next, sprinkle the gold powder from above to show the pattern before the lacquer hardens. This technique makes a gorgeous and elegant look to works.
Regarding the design of this sword stand, it features a design of weeping pine branches and cherry blossom petals, with a bridge depicted in the background. In Japanese culture, the pine tree (松, Matsu) is a symbol of longevity and resilience. Since it remains green throughout the seasons, it is also associated with immortality and unchanging strength. The cherry blossom (桜, Sakura) petals in this design are adorned with gold and silver accents, reflecting their cultural significance. Like pine trees, cherry blossoms hold a special place in the hearts of the Japanese people, representing the fleeting beauty of life and renewal.
The bridge in the background appears to be a Taikobashi (太鼓橋, arched bridge), commonly found at the entrance of Shinto shrines in Japan. These bridges are believed to symbolize a passage to a sacred space, reinforcing their spiritual and cultural importance in Japanese tradition.
You could choose your favorite side as the front, depending on the Japanese sword you display.
