【Description】
Omi Daijyo Fujiwara Tadahiro was the son of the first-generation Fujiwara Tadayoshi. when his father was deceased in 1632, he was only 19 years old but started to forge swords. This fact indicates that he was not only excellent at making swords but also the apprentices of his father(Tadayoshi) supported him to create great swords. He received the title of Omi Daijyo in 1645 and kept forging the swords until he died at the age of 81. He created the most swords of all the swordsmiths in Hizen province. (today’s Saga prefecture)
This sword has the inscription of Fudo Myo-o(不動明王), which is a protective god in Buddhism, particularly Japanese Shingon Buddhism. This god was also known as a god of wars. Samurai believed in the power of this god so they put decorations of this god on either armor or samurai sword.
