This item is the Chawan (茶碗, bowl). It refers to tableware for drinking tea and is one of the essential tea utensils in tea ceremonies. A Chawan is also called a Matchawan (抹茶椀). Depending on the season, tea utensils are used differently, such as deep bowls in the winter to keep the tea from getting cold, and shallow bowls in the summer to make it easier to cool the tea.
This work has a beautiful glossy black colored base, with a whiteish glaze dripping on two areas. The shape of this vessel is irregularly curved, making it stable when held in a hand.
