Description
This wooden sword stand is suitable for exhibiting a Katana sword. As seen in the example pictures, you could also display a Daisho (Katana & Wakizashi) set. You could enjoy this item as a sword stand or interior decoration in your room. The Makie (蒔絵) technique is used effectively to make an elegant look of this sword stand. It is a typical Japanese lacquer art technique developed uniquely in Japan for about 1,200 years. Firstly, it needs to draw a picture with lacquer on the surface with a thin brush. Next, sprinkle the gold powder from above to show the pattern before the lacquer hardens. This technique makes a gorgeous and elegant look to works.

A classical Japanese theme, the Tsuru Kame Mon (鶴亀文, crane and turtle pattern), decorates this sword stand. According to a theory, the idea of the Tsuru Kame Mon is an auspicious design that has existed since the Heian period (平安時代, 794-1185). And people have used it as a design since the Edo period. A proverb says these animals have long lives; for example, cranes live one thousand years, and turtles live even ten thousand years. Therefore, this motif is considered a symbol of longevity. Also, in the ancient continent, turtles were considered messengers of Mt. Hourai (蓬莱山), where the immortals lived, and were considered animals that symbolized wisdom and longevity. This tradition was passed on to Japan, and along with the crane, it is regarded as an auspicious animal that represents longevity and is said to bring good luck.

In addition, a pair of cranes symbolize conjugal love because they get along very well and never change partners throughout their lives. In addition, because of its high-pitched cry that could be heard over long distances, it has been considered a precious and auspicious bird among people, as it is said that a crane is a bird that connects heaven and earth and leads to heaven. This sword stand has such auspicious animal motifs.
