Title: Bizen Ware Flower Vase

Description
This item is a Bizen ware flower vase. Bizen ware has delicate pores and slight air permeability, so it maintains a state of living water for a long time, making the flowers last longer. Also, Bizen ware is stronger than many other styles of pottery because it is fired at high temperatures for a long period without being glazed. For this reason, it is even said that it will not break even if you throw it.

In addition, the fine irregularities on the surface of Bizen ware will gradually become smoother as it is used more and more, and the more it is used, you will feel a more calm taste. At first glance, this style of pottery is simple and unadorned. However, the rarity that no two pieces are the same means you could truly enjoy Ichigo Ichie (一期一会, One Time One Meeting) encounter with pottery. Whether you decorate it with flowers or not, this flower vase is a masterpiece that would be enjoyed for a long time as an interior decoration that colors your room.

What is Bizen Yaki?
The representative area of the Bizen Yaki (備前焼, Bizen ware) is Inbe (伊部) area in Bizen City, Okayama (岡山) prefecture. Bizen ware is an extremely simple pottery that does not use any glaze or decoration. It is fired at a high temperature of 1,200 to 1,300 degrees, and the properties of the clay create the patterns, how it is packed into the kiln, changes in the temperature of the kiln, and the ash and charcoal during firing. The charm of handmade products is that no two pieces are the same color or pattern, and the more you use them, the more the taste increases.

The original soil for Bizen ware is a clay layer called the Hiyose (ひよせ) located underground around the Inbe area. This material is valuable because there are very few places where we could mine this soil. Depending on the type of work and the artist’s preference, mountain soil is sometimes mixed. Hiyose is highly sticky, has low fire resistance, and has a high iron content for pottery clay. Since Bizen ware does not use glaze, the raw material, clay, is considered extremely important.
