Title: Antique Japanese Makie Table&Bunko Box Set/ Temple in the mountain

Description
This item includes a traditionally lacquered Makie table and Bunko box,

Bunko is a kind of box, and it is also called Bunko Bako. It has been used to store books, personal belongings, or valuables. Since ancient times, Japanese people put essential things in boxes customarily. And they developed various techniques to decorate packages.

This box has a rectangular shape with a rounded corner. Due to the Makie (蒔絵, please see the description below) decoration, this box has a gorgeous appearance.

The landscape is depicted at the surface. There is a temple that is standing in the mountain. Deer are pecking foods or are taking rests. People once thought deer were gods’ vehicles, so that this animal represents longevity. The moon is peeking at the top of the mountain and is illuminating the night quietly. The theme of the table is the same as the Bunko box. The sun, beautiful mountain, and nature are depicted.

You can find figure paintings at the bottom of the box and the back of the lid. They dressed in aristocrat, Samurai, or priest costumes, respectively. Each of them is framed by a fan-shaped frame with beautiful decorations. Waka (和歌, Japanese poems) are written around them. It seems that each person wrote the poem.

This Bunko is a gem that shows the life of people at that time and refined cultures. It is useful to store your items. Or, you can also display it to enjoy as one of the interior decorations in your room.

This antique table is also highly decorative. Its theme: landscape painting of moonlit night is shared with the design of the Bunko box. Motifs that symbolize longevity, such as pine trees and cranes, are depicted; so, this screen is composed of very auspicious designs. The legs, even four corners of the table, are carefully decorated. We could say its design is for practical use and for enjoying as an interior decoration. The combination of this table and Bunko box would give an elegant atmosphere for your room. Or, it would be a great gift too.

*Makie……A typical Japanese lacquer art technique developed uniquely in Japan for about 1200 years. Firstly, it needs to draw a picture with lacquer on the surface with a thin brush. Next, sprinkle the gold powder from above to show the pattern before the lacquer hardens. This technique makes a gorgeous and elegant look to works.

*Raden…… It is a kind of decorative technique that is often used for traditional craftworks. It uses the pearl part of seashells and put it into the engraved surface of lacquer or wood. Thanks to its iridescent luster, it gives a luxurious look to works.
