Description

This wooden sword stand is suitable for exhibiting a Katana sword. As seen in the example pictures, you could also display a Daisho (Katana & Wakizashi) set. You could enjoy this item as a sword stand or interior decoration in your room. Black lacquer and Tsugaru Nuri (津軽塗: lacquerware) effectively make an elegant look of this sword stand. Tsugaru Nuri (津軽塗) is one of the typical Japanese lacquer art techniques, which is said to originate in the Tsugaru (津軽) region surrounding Hirosaki (弘前) in Aomori (青森) in the Edo period. The lacquerware is made using a crafting technique called Togidashi Kawarinuri (研ぎ出し変わり塗り), in which the ware is painted with lacquer and polished repeatedly, a process that involves over 40 steps, completed over the course of a few months. The notable features of Tsugaru Nuri are its practicality, durability and highly refined appearance. Especially, this technique makes beautiful multi-layered patterns of colored lacquer stand out.

You would also find a golden mark is designed on the front of this stand. It is applied here as a family crest, and this crest is called the Kuruma Mon (車紋).  In modern times, there are cars as a means of transportation, but in the past, oxcarts using cows were common. Heian aristocrats primarily used it, and the wheel part of an oxcart came to be used as a family crest.

We hope you enjoy its beauty by exhibiting your sword(s) on this stand.

*Please keep in mind that the holder of this sword stand is relatively narrow and we believe some of the Koshirae or Shirasaya won’t fit this sword stand. If you like to know the exact measurement, please contact us before placing an order.

*As this product is an antique, there are small scratches and dents on the wood. Please check each photo and ensure its condition.

*Please note that these replica swords are NOT included in this item.
