\u00a0Suji Kabuto consists of many small riveted iron plates to form its shape. This helmet has Ryokujuni(sixty-two in Japanese) iron plates.<\/span>
\nSuji means a stripe in Japanese, and you can see 62 stripes in this helmet. The more plates it uses, the heavier and more expensive it would be. A high-class Samurai might have owned this helmet.There is no signature on this helmet, but it resembles the style of Yaotome school, one of the most famous helmet makers in the Edo period.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The front decoration is called Kuwagata, whose design originates from the hoe, a farming tool. There are Inome patterns, which looks like a heart mark. Inome pattern has been used since ancient times in Japan, especially as a decoration for shrine or temple. As its name implies, the eyes of boar are the origin of this pattern. It\u2019s believed that Inome pattern works as an amulet so that it protects us from evil spirits or fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0This type of Menpo (Faceguard) is called Retsusei Menpo (\u70c8\u52e2\u9762\u982c) It represents the angry face to intimidate enemies.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u3010How To Preserve Antique Samurai Armor\/Helmets\u3011<\/strong><\/span>
\nDryness, humidity, and bad ventilation might deteriorate the condition of antique Samurai armor\/helmet. The best temperature to preserve Samurai armor\/helmet is around 20\u2103 in Celsius, and humidity should be about 60%.\u00a0 Direct sunlight should be avoided. We recommend storing armors\/helmets in a room with good ventilation. If you like to display them outside the boxes for a prolonged time, we suggest using a glass case in order for dust not to be accumulated easily. In case you don’t use a glass case, please make sure to regularly dust off\u00a0 from the armor\/helmets by using a soft brush made of delicate cloth or brush for painting.<\/span><\/p>\n
