The design on the surface features a family crest called the &#8220;Hidari Mitsu Tomoe (\u5de6\u4e09\u3064\u5df4)&#8221;, which shows three comma-shaped figures swirling to the left in a circular pattern. This traditional Japanese motif is known for its dynamic shape. One well-known samurai who used this crest was Hijikata Toshiz\u014d (\u571f\u65b9\u6b73\u4e09), the vice-commander of the Shinsen-gumi (\u65b0\u9078\u7d44).<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"436\" data-end=\"809\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0The Netsuke is made from a stone with a vivid reddish-brown color, which is believed to be tortoiseshell (\u3079\u3063\u7532).\u00a0 A small, rounded metal bead is used as the ojime to keep the cord tight. It is practical and designed not to slip easily.
