\n\u00a0This item is an ivory color base Imari ware. Its cream-colored vase is gorgeously decorated with plant motifs such as Sakura (\u685c, cherry blossom) and Botan (\u7261\u4e39, peony) flowers, combining geometric patterns. Various colorings are used for painting these designs: red, blue, and green. In addition, the gold coloring gives it a luxurious look for this work. The use of bright and dark colors and different shades of color creates a well-balanced look that maintains elegance without being flashy.

\u00a0Cherry blossom and peony, both plant patterns, have been cherished as auspicious things. Cherry blossom is one of the seasonal things of spring, and it has been loved for a long time in Japan. Its pattern is designed for many items: sword mountings, Kimono (\u7740\u7269, traditional Japanese costume), or furnishings. One theory says that the god of grain exists in cherry blossoms. Therefore, this flower pattern has been treated as the symbol of a plentiful harvest. People held a traditional custom under cherry blossom trees to pray for a bumper year in ancient times. It is said this is the origin of the cherry blossom viewing picnic today.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Peony represents happiness, wealth, nobleness, and gorgeousness. This flower pattern has been treated as a kind of good-omen motif; people regarded it as a rich harvest sign. As mentioned earlier, a peony is called the Botan in Japanese. When we write this flower\u2019s name in Japanese, its second letter means mountain hermit medicine that would give us eternal youth. Based on the meaning of this letter, the peony pattern symbolizes eternal youth and longevity.

What is Imari Yaki?<\/strong><\/span>
\n\u00a0Imari Yaki (\u4f0a\u4e07\u91cc\u713c, Imari ware) is a type of Japanese porcelain produced in Hizen (\u80a5\u524d, Saga prefecture, and Nagasaki prefecture today). It flourished mainly in Arita (\u6709\u7530) town in Saga prefecture. The main port of shipment was Imari, so this style of porcelain was named Imari Yaki. Until the medieval, Japanese people made pottery but depended on foreign countries for porcelains. The first production of domestic porcelain began in Arita town in the 17th century. It is the origin of porcelain in Japan.

\u00a0Its quality of material characterizes imari ware. Porcelain is even stronger than pottery. It becomes hard and durable since it is fired at a high temperature (around 1300 degrees) for over 17 hours. You could hear a clear and high-pitched sound if you flipped this porcelain lightly with your finger. Also, it has a smooth texture compared to other potteries.<\/span><\/p>\n
