Modern Authentic Japanese Sword Gendaito Katana Unsigned Kanemoto NTHK Certificate(Blade\uff06Koshirae) <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u3010Description\u3011<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

According to NTHK that appraised this blade, it was forged by Kaneko Magoroku Kanemoto in the late Showa period(1946-1963), although there is no signature on its tang.<\/p>\n

The first-gen Magoroku Kanemoto was one of the most famous swordsmiths from the Muromachi period. (500 years ago) He forged swords in the Mino province, which is renowned for a particular sword style called MINO-DEN. The sword maker’s name Kanemoto lasted 27th generations from the Muromachi period(Samurai period) to the\u00a0 Hesei period(Modern day).<\/p>\n

This modern blade comes with antique sword mountings. According to NTHK, all the sword mountings were created in the middle of the Edo period(approximately 250-300 years old). It would be an interesting combination to own this blade. You can enjoy both of the craftsmanship from modern-day and ancient times.<\/p>\n

About Modern Swordsmith<\/strong><\/span>
\n\u00a0 There are around 150-200 swordsmiths in Japan today. To legally produce Japanese swords, one needs to pass the national exam given by the Agency for Cultural Affairs(Bunka-Cho) and receive the license. Before taking the exam, one must finish his or her apprenticeship under a licensed master for more than five years.<\/span>
\n\u00a0Those who practice Iaido(\u5c45\u5408\u9053) tend to use those modern swords, and there are modern Japanese sword collectors nationwide.<\/span>
\nThe modern Japanese sword makers are researching old ways to forge swords and trying to recreate ancient style swords. They are the ones who keep the tradition of Japanese history alive.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Japanese swordsmiths left the black rust on the tang because it prevents red rust while the tang is in its handle. And the discoloration of the tang was created over time, and it is a great indicator for a Japanese sword specialist to estimate when the sword was forged.<\/div>\n

Koshirae<\/span>:\u00a0<\/strong>Koshirae is the mounting of the Japanese sword. There are several parts that consist of Koshirae such as Saya(Sabbard), Tsuka( Handle), Tsuba(Handguard).<\/strong><\/p>\n

NTHK, also known as NPO Nihon Touken Hozon Kai, is the oldest organization for sword authentication of Japanese swords in modern times. It was established in 1889 during the post-Samurai era. They authenticated the blade\uff06Koshirae on July 15th in the 30th year of Heisei (2018). The purchaser will receive this original certificate as well.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0The Board of Education in Osaka issued a registration paper for this sword in the same year the sword was forged(2001). In order to obtain this paper, the sword needs to be traditionally hand forged. With this paper, its owner can legally own an authentic Japanese sword in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n
