Antique Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Korehira with NBTHK Hozon Certificate<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u3010Description\u3011<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe blade was forged by Settsu no kami Tachibana Korehira(\u6442\u6d25\u5b88\u662f\u5e73) in the 8th year of the Kanei era. (1631) Korehiara is a swordsmith from Nagato in the Choshu domain(today’s Yamaguchi prefecture). There aren’t so many remaining works created by Korehira.<\/p>\n

Korehira received the title of Settsu no kami in the early Edo period. The name of Kami was given by an emperor to those who were excellent at sword making. Generally, to gain the title of Kami, one needed to be recommended by the lord they serve. The title naturally represents highly skilled swordsmiths. Settsu is the name of the place located in Osaka prefecture.<\/p>\n

It is said that Korehira belonged to Chikuzen Sekido school, which was one of the most prestigious schools in Kyushu island in Japan.
\nTheir school tradition resembles Bizen Ichimonji school, the prestigious school in Okayama prefecture. It was quite common for a swordsmith to move to another domain or province during the Edo period to look for better opportunities.<\/p>\n

This sword has a Hozon certificate issued by NBTHK. This authentication paper was only given to Japanese swords, worth preserving by Nihon Bijutsu Touken Hozon Kyokai(the Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword).<\/p>\n

Nakago<\/strong><\/span>\uff1aNakago is the tang of the Japanese sword.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Japanese swordsmiths left the black rust on the tang because it prevents red rust while the tang is in its handle. And the discoloration of the tang was created over time, and it is a great indicator for a Japanese sword specialist to estimate when the sword was forged.<\/p>\n

Koshirae:\u00a0Koshirae is the mounting of the Japanese sword. There are several parts that consist of Koshirae such as Saya(Sabbard), Tsuka( Handle), Tsuba(Handguard).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Fuchi-Kashira<\/strong><\/span>\uff1aA pair of matching sword fittings that cover the upper and bottom parts of its sword hilt.\u00a0<\/b><\/span>

Tsuka and Menuki<\/strong><\/span>\uff1aTsuka is the handle of the Japanese sword and Menuki is its decoration . It has dragon decoration.<\/b><\/span>

Tsuba and Habaki<\/strong><\/span>\uff1aTsuba is the handguard for the Japanese Sword and Habaki is the equipment to make the blade not touch its scabbard inside. It prevents the blade from getting rusty and chipped.<\/span><\/strong>

\u00a0NBTHK, also known as Nihon Bijutsu Touken Hozon Kyokai (the Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), is one of the oldest Japanese sword appraising organizations in modern-day Japan. They authenticated the blade on Feb 25th in the 31th year of Heisei(2019). They appraised it as Hozon Touken, the blade worth preserving for Japanese society. The purchaser will receive this original certificate as well.<\/span><\/p>\n
