Description
It has a flat rectangular shape and is divided into five layers. A string was passed to both sides of each step, fastened with netting to prevent falls. Furthermore, the string was sandwiched between bands.

Due to the *Makie technique with gold, this Inro case has a gorgeous appearance. Grasses grow around the rock, and the giant tree is probably a pine tree. It seems this work depicts scenery on the battlefield as you could see fighting Samurais. They wear fine armor, and each of them holds weapons such as the Katana or the Naginata in their hands. These Samurais are trying to attack the enemy; it makes us feel the tense atmosphere on the battleground. On the backside of this Inro case, you would find the Samurai who has defeated the enemy right now.

The Ojime (緒締, part between the Inro case and the Netsuke) is a component that prevents the Inro case will open, and it also has another role in combining two strings into one. This work’s Ojime is made from golden-colored metal and is decorated with a symmetrical design that combines flower and circle patterns. The Netsuke (根付, clasp) is colored with glossy black, and the vine-shaped plants with red fruits are designed.

*Makie……A typical Japanese lacquer art technique developed uniquely in Japan for about 1200 years. Firstly, it needs to draw a picture with lacquer on the surface with a thin brush. Next, sprinkle the gold powder from above to show the pattern before the lacquer hardens. This technique makes a gorgeous and elegant look to works.
