Description
This wooden sword stand is suitable for exhibiting a Katana sword. As seen in the example pictures, you could also display a Daisho (Katana & Wakizashi) set. This sword stand has a refined look. This sword stand is entirely painted with black lacquer, and each motif is elegantly expressed with a traditional Japanese craft method, the Raden (螺鈿). The Raden is a decorative technique that is often used for traditional craftwork. It uses the pearl part of seashells and puts it into the engraved surface of lacquer or wood. Thanks to its iridescent luster, it gives a luxurious look to works.
About the design of this sword stand, each side has a completely different look. We believe that there is no problem in using either side facing forward based on your taste. The one side is decorated with full of plant motifs familiar to Japanese people. The principal theme of this design is called the Shouchikubai (松竹梅). It combines pine trees, bamboos, and Japanese apricot blossoms. This motif is one of the classic Japanese designs. Several theories about its meaning are as follows: longevity, power of perseverance, vitality, etcetera. Even today, it is widely cherished as a lucky charm in Japan. These plants are the main characters depicted on this large screen, surrounded by various geometric patterns.
The other side of this sword stand has a pretty simple look. The emblems are designed with some plant motifs, and this design also gives off a sophisticated beauty. You could choose your favorite side as the front, depending on the Japanese sword you display.
