Title: Kusari Katabira 01

Description
An antique Kusari Katabira made of hemp. There are scratches on the fabric parts. Although some chains are partially rusted, chain rings are lined up neatly.

What is Kusari Katabira?
Kusari Katabira (鎖帷子) is a chain armor. Kusari means a chain, and Katabira is Hitoe (単衣, single linen) made of hemp that is used as underwear. It is also called Kikomi (着込み) because it is worn under clothes. This product is made with lots of small loops from thinly stretched steel wire, and these wires are connected to each other to make clothes.

What is the merits of wearing Kusari Katabira?
-Flexibility: Kusari Katabira is indeed weaker than metal armor. However, Kusari Katabira is easy to make, and it has good flexibility compare to metal armor as it fits the human body movements and allows its user to wear Kusari Katabira for a long time. And it has a higher protection effect than armor made of leather. Kusari Katabira reduces the power of sword slashing or spear attacks.

-Layering: Kusari Katabira can be layered with other clothing. Therefore, its wearer could cover joints where the metal armor cannot protect: for instance, neck, armpit, inside of the elbow, wrist, or back of the knee. Also, as another example, people of high states worn Kusari Katabira under their ordinary clothes, or, put Kusari Katabira with leather armor to guard their bodies robustly.
