Title: Antique Japanese Makie Table Golden Fan

Description
This Makie Table represents great Japanese craftsmanship. Attention to all the details is amazing to observe. There are large number of gold leaf applied on the surface of the table. Japanese fans are designed. Initially, only high-classed people used fans in ancient times; therefore, its pattern represents wealth. As a fan spreads toward the end when expanded, people considered the fan was a sign of prosperity and good luck. Besides, the action “Aogu (仰ぐ, cooling with a fan)” means standing up and sway. So this item was also used as a tool to evoke the gods’ spirit and shake the things’ hearts. Fans have been thought it would invite good fortune and avoid evil spirits. The fan is a relatively familiar motif for Japanese people still today.

Legs and four corners of the table are covered decoratively with metal; therefore, it looks gorgeous, and it has practical strength. It is a gem that you could feel the attention of its creator to the details.

*Makie……A typical Japanese lacquer art technique developed uniquely in Japan for about 1200 years. Firstly, it needs to draw a picture with lacquer on the surface with a thin brush. Next, sprinkle the gold powder from above to show the pattern before the lacquer hardens. This technique makes a gorgeous and elegant look to works.
